Embracing a more balanced lifestyle means reconnecting with yourself and rediscovering the pleasure in the small things you used to do. These seven stress and management tips will help you learn how to create a more balanced life and manage your own stresses. Identify your five most important values which you can use as a "filter" to help you assess how you manage your time. This will help you decide which activities are worth pursuing and which you need to drop.
Writing it down leaves you free to concentrate on other things. Keep your list in front of you, and allow yourself the satisfaction of marking a task as complete. This is a little different from keeping To Do Lists. A checklist tracks tasks that need to be completed on a given project. If you find that you work on the same types of projects repeatedly, consider creating a checklist template for yourself so you can use it over and over again.
Humans have an incredible capacity for memory, we remember to do the basic things to keep us alive, we remember multiple tasks on a daily basis at work, even if we do not have checklists to remind us, and we remember all our personal and family responsibilities. Yet, we live such fast paced lives that, without reminders and checklists things will, and inevitably do, slip through the cracks. Decide ahead of time how long you will devote to a specific task. That way as you are working on it, the knowledge that your allocated time is limited will hone your focus and sharpen your mind, allowing you to concentrate more fully on the task at hand. When you make appointments with other people, use scheduling software or a calendar to keep track of these time-bound events. Likewise, since you have taken the time to plan your day, be meticulous in keeping to your scheduled tasks. Do not let yourself be distracted.
Checklists offer another significant advantage. By reducing the clutter of information you try to keep in your head, you strengthen your capacity to make decisions that make you happier and more effective. Recent tests prove conclusively that tasks as simple as remembering a string of numbers overburden the prefrontal cortex, interfering with effective decision-making. What a waste of personal potential!
Approaching your housework in an organized manor will make it both more complete and easier in the long run. You do not have to create checklists like NASA or anything, just use them to remind you of all the items that need attention, and so that nothing is left out. These checklists will help you to stay accountable to yourself and your family, and help you provide them with the beautiful home you want them to have.
